History & Culture Classes
Oneota Native American Life: Travel back in time to 1000 A.D. and experience what life may have been like for the Oneota; a prehistoric culture that once inhabited Southeastern Minnesota. Analyzing artifacts will help guide the students to the important connection between natural resources and survival. Students will then hike to a recreated Oneota site to practice primitive skills that may include; corn grinding, baking corn bread, digging out a canoe, making twine, garden tending, and fire starting using a bow drill. Offered all year. Click here to view the class outline... Pioneer Life: Minnesota's rich cultural history comes to life as students take on the roles of early pioneers in the 1860's. Sawing logs, starting fires with flint and steel, wheat threshing and making bread are just some of the activities participants will sample at a re-created pioneer homestead. Offered all year.
